A REFUGE AND A RANSOM
JMC Choir
A Refuge and a Ransom — Songs of Forgiveness and Grace is a collection of twelve hymns, each written as a direct setting of a specific passage of Scripture rather than a loose paraphrase. The album moves through the full shape of the gospel — confession and guilt (Psalm 130, Psalm 51, Psalm 32), refuge and mercy (Psalm 46, Micah 7, Isaiah 43), the substitution of Christ (Isaiah 53, Ephesians 1, Romans 3, Colossians 2), and the new covenant promise of a forgiveness that reaches the heart (Jeremiah 31, Hebrews 8, 1 Peter 2). The lyrics are deliberately modern — no archaic language — so the words are as plain and immediate as the doctrine behind them is old, written in careful agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession. Instrumental versions of each song are available for congregational use.
